Black Graduation

Black Graduation is a tradition within the Black community at the University of Texas at Austin. A committee of seniors joined together thirteen years ago to form a legacy that provides African and African American graduating seniors an opportunity to celebrate a monumental accomplishment in their lives. The Black Community at the University is extremely small and often overlooked by the mainstream campus. The Black Graduation allows students to celebrate their heritage and acknowledge their accomplishments and memories throughout their tenure at the University. The event’s purpose is to bring the graduates, their fellow classmates, faculty, staff, and parents together before each student embarks on their individual journeys’ beyond The University. In addition, this opens the opportunity to network, connect, and build life-long relationships pre-graduation.
